PSHE and RSHE
Our aim is for all children to gain the knowledge and skills required to make informed decisions within, and react appropriately and with confidence to situations or problems they will face throughout their lives.
To this end we undertake to:-
Develop children’s skills and knowledge and encourage and enable them to apply these to their own lives.
Encourage children to consider the viewpoints of others and develop empathy for the feelings of others within a wide range of different situations.
Enable and encourage children to make informed choices by providing them with knowledge and skills to do so.
Build on and develop existing knowledge as children progress through the school.
Develop children's emotional literacy and provide them with a range of strategies to help them deal with challenging situations and feelings.
Teachers will use the both PSHE association and Family Links to support planning. They will also use Zones of Regulation to help the children improve their emotional literacy. This will provide them with daily opportunities to reflect on how they feel and equip them with toolkits that contain a range of strategies to deal with difficult emotions.
The Family Links programme provides the school with a framework to support families at home. Two members of staff have been trained to provide praenting courses using this framework. The link to the PSHE curriculum in school means children are recieving a consistent message at home and in school.
In addition to this, two members of staff are trained ELSAs (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants). They work with small groups of children or individuals to help them navigate and understand their emotions and the impact their actions can have on the emotions of others around them.
