Music
At Windrush Primary School we encourage pupils to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all pupils.
Our teaching focuses on:
● Developing musical skills and concepts through listening, appraising, performing and composing.
● Developing social skills through cooperation with others in the shared experience of music making.
● Developing an understanding of musical traditions and developments in a variety of cultures
● Enabling children to understand how sounds are made and how music is made through a variety of instruments.
● Contributing to the promotion of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
● Inspiring Christian values through the singing of hymns and spiritual songs.
Besides being a creative and enjoyable activity, music can be a highly academic and demanding subject. It is also important in helping children feel part of a community. Music can be a lifelong source of pleasure for many people; it is education for life.
We use the Charanga Music scheme, which is promoted by the Oxfordshire Music Service. This ensures progression and coverage of knowledge and skills across the school while giving children a rich diet of musical experiences.
